The Hoola Bandoola Band was a Swedish progg group. Key members included Mikael Wiehe and Björn Afzelius, both of whom later became prominent solo artists. In the early 1970s, the band aligned with the alternative record label MNW, and released their debut album Garanterat Individuell in 1971, which was voted album of the year in Sweden. Their follow-up album Vem Kan Man Lita På? (1972) featured more explicitly socialist themes. In 1975, they released “Stoppa Matchen!,” a protest single tied to opposition against a Sweden–Chile tennis match during the Pinochet dictatorship, marking one of their final studio recordings. The band disbanded in 1976, after which Wiehe and Afzelius went on to highly successful solo careers. After roughly 20 years apart, Hoola Bandoola Band reunited in 1996 for a major Swedish tour, which included performances as support for Bob Dylan and a nationwide series of concerts.
