Björn Svante Afzelius, born on January 27, 1947 in Huskvarna, Sweden, was a singer and songwriter. He co-founded the progressive rock band Hoola Bandoola Band in 1970. Afzelius released his first solo album, Vem är det som är rädd?, in 1974. Notable songs from his career include "Ikaros" and "Tusen bitar". He authored the novel En gång i Havanna in 1993. Afzelius passed away on February 16, 1999, in Gothenburg. His final album, Elsinore, was released the same year. The Foundation Cultural International Björn Afzelius (BAIK) was established in his honor, sponsoring the Freemuse Award for musical freedom of expression.
