Abysmal Torment, a death metal band from Malta, was formed in 2000 by Nick Farrugia. Initially performing under the name Molested, they gained traction with their first notable stage performance in 2002. Their debut EP, Incised Wound Suicide, released in 2004, earned positive reviews and led to a deal with Brutal Bands. The band's second album, Epoch of Methodic Carnage, was released in 2006 and distributed internationally. In August 2010, former drummer Wayne Vella passed away in a workplace accident. Abysmal Torment continued with tours and releases, including Cultivate the Apostate in 2014 under Willowtip Records. Their album, The Misanthrope, was released in 2018, featuring "Squalid Thoughts" as a teaser.
