The Philharmonia Quartet Berlin, a string quartet founded in 1985 by members of the Berlin Philharmonic, gained international recognition through performances at venues such as Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall. The original lineup included Daniel Stabrawa on violin, Christian Stadelmann on second violin, Neithard Resa on viola, and Jan Diesselhorst on cello. They performed complete cycles of Beethoven's and Shostakovich's string quartets, and recorded all the Beethoven string quartets, combining them into a single release in 2015 to celebrate their 30th anniversary. They received several awards, notably the ECHO Klassik in 2000 for Beethoven's String Quartet, Op. 130 and Große Fuge, Op. 133, and in 2003 for Benjamin Britten’s String Quartets No. 2 and 3. Their future became uncertain following the death of Stadelmann in 2019.
