Guillermo Velázquez Benavidez (born 1948) was a Mexican musician, singer, and trovador from Xichú, Guanajuato. Velázquez Benavidez performed huapango arribeño (also known as son arribeño) and played the quinta huapanguera. He studied philosophy at the Moctezuma Seminary in New Mexico before pursuing a musical career. In the late 1970s, Velázquez Benavidez formed the group Guillermo Velázquez y los leones de la sierra de Xichú. The ensemble released the album Los trovadores de Río Verde in 1982, followed by over 25 recordings including Viva el huapango (1985) and Serrano de corazón (2016). Velázquez Benavidez performed at the Festival Internacional Cervantino on twelve occasions between 1983 and 2001. He also organized the annual huapango arribeño festival in Xichú, which began in 1983. His repertoire included approximately 100 songs and numerous original poems.
