Javier Camarena, born March 26, 1976, in Xalapa, Mexico, is a tenor known for his bel canto repertoire. He studied flute before transitioning to vocal studies at the University of Veracruz and Guanajuato. His breakthrough came in 2004 with the first prize at the Carlo Morelli competition, debuting as Tonio in La Fille du régiment. Camarena joined the Zurich Opera in 2006 and debuted at Paris Opera in 2008 as Count Almaviva in Le Barbier de Séville. He has performed at major venues worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera. Notable roles include Ramiro in La Cenerentola and Arturo in I puritani. His discography includes solo albums like Contrabandista (2019) and collaborations on operas such as Rigoletto (2022). He received the International Opera Award for Best Male Singer in 2020.
