Stone the Crows, a Scottish blues rock band formed in Glasgow in late 1969. The group was founded by Maggie Bell on vocals, Les Harvey on guitar, Colin Allen on drums, James Dewar on bass and vocals, and John McGinnis on keyboards. After playing together in the Kinning Park Ramblers and Power, they renamed Stone the Crows at the suggestion of Led Zeppelin's manager Peter Grant. Their first two albums, Stone the Crows (1970) and Ode to John Law (1970), showcased Bell’s vocals, often compared to Janis Joplin’s. In 1972, tragedy struck when Harvey was electrocuted onstage at Swansea's Top Rank Suite during a live performance. The band continued with Jimmy McCulloch replacing Harvey, but ultimately disbanded in June 1973.
