Claude Balbastre, born Claude Bénigne Balbastre on December 8, 1724 in Dijon, France, was a French organist, harpsichordist, and composer. He began his musical training under his father, who was an organist at the cathedral of Dijon. After his father's death, he continued his studies with Claude Rameau. In 1743, Balbastre succeeded his teacher as organist at the Dijon Cathedral. He moved to Paris in 1750 and eventually made his debut at the Concert Spirituel. Balbastre's career included prestigious positions such as organist at Saint-Roch Church in Paris, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and harpsichordist to the French Court, where he taught Marie-Antoinette. His compositions include Treize Noëls Pour Orgue and arrangements of revolutionary hymns. Balbastre died on May 9, 1799 in Paris.
