Lawrance Arthur Collingwood, also known as Lawrance Collingwood, born on March 14, 1887, in London, was an English conductor, composer, and record producer. He began his musical career as a choirboy at Westminster Abbey and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Exeter College. In 1911, he enrolled at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. Upon returning to England in 1918, Collingwood built his reputation as a composer with works like Symphonic Poem (1918). He conducted operas at Sadler's Wells Theatre and became its principal conductor in 1931. His own opera Macbeth premiered there in 1934. During World War II, he conducted Sadler's Wells Opera across the UK. Collingwood was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1948 and worked as a record producer for EMI until 1972. He died on December 19, 1982, in Killin, Perthshire, Scotland.
