The Loewenguth Quartet was a French string quartet founded in 1929 by violinist Alfred Loewenguth. The quartet became known for performing classical repertoire, including works by Beethoven, Mozart, and Haydn. Active from the 1930s to 1983, they toured extensively, notably in South Africa. Significant concerts included performing the complete quartets of Beethoven in New York in November 1948 and premiering Egon Wellesz's sixth quartet at the Library of Congress on November 12, 1948. The Quatuor Loewenguth recorded for various labels, including Deutsche Grammophon and Vox, with notable recordings such as Mozart: String Quartet No. 17 In B Flat Major, K. 458 (1951) and Beethoven: String Quartets (1963). The quartet disbanded following Loewenguth's death in 1983.
