Günter Kehr, born on March 16, 1920 in Darmstadt, Germany, was a violinist and conductor. He studied violin and musicology in Berlin and Cologne, earning his doctorate in 1941. In 1948, Kehr founded the Kehr Trio, which performed internationally for decades. In 1953, he became director of the Peter Cornelius Conservatory in Mainz and taught chamber music at the Musikhochschule Köln (Cologne University of Music) from 1967 to 1986. In 1955, he established the Mainzer Kammerorchester, leading it until his death and performing extensively across multiple continents. The orchestra made around 130 recordings and performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 1985. Kehr died in Mainz on September 22, 1989.
