Hermann Becht, born on March 19, 1939, in Karlsruhe, Germany, was a German opera singer known for his baritone voice. He began his vocal training with Emma Wolf-Dengel and Josef Greindl, winning the First Prize at the Berlin Singing Competition in 1968. Becht started as a bassist at the Braunschweig State Theater in 1963 but transitioned to lyrical Italian baritone roles by 1970 at the Wiesbaden State Theater. In 1974, he joined the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where he performed for over three decades. He was noted for his interpretations of Wagner, particularly his portrayal of Alberich in Der Ring des Nibelungen, which he sang at the Bayreuth Festival from 1979 to 1986. Becht was awarded the title Kammersänger (chamber singer) in 1992 and received a Golden Grammy for his role as Alberich in 1984. He passed away on February 12, 2009, in Marxzell.
