Minitraum, a guitar duo from East Germany, was founded in 1979 in Berlin by Rainer Schmidt and Michael Matthies. The band released their self-titled EP Minitraum in 1986. Notable songs included "Katze Berta" (1984) and "Tage gibt's" (1985), which reached number 50 on the East German hit parade. Minitraum was known for minimalist live performances, using only two guitars and a homemade drum box constructed by Schmidt. They appeared frequently on DDR television shows such as Ein Kessel Buntes and performed at festivals like Rock für den Frieden in 1987. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, engagements decreased, leading to their disbandment in 1991. A reformed version of Minitraum released the album Weit fort in 1995 with Andreas Rohde replacing Michael Matthies on vocals. The band's album Aus den Augen was released in 2011. Michael Matthies passed away in June 2014.
