Paolo Montarsolo (born 16 March 1925) was an Italian operatic bass from Portici. Montarsolo specialized in buffo roles and established his career with performances in operas by Gioachino Rossini and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. After studies in Naples and Milan, the singer performed a debut at the Teatro San Carlo in 1949 and at La Scala in 1951. In 1954, Montarsolo began appearing in international venues including Vienna, London, and Paris. In 1958, the singer performed the role of Uberto in the film La serva padrona. Montarsolo performed roles including Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Don Magnifico in the 1981 film La Cenerentola, and Don Alfonso in the 1988 film Così fan tutte. The singer collaborated with conductors including Claudio Abbado and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Montarsolo retired from the stage in 1997 but remained active as a director and teacher. Montarsolo died on 31 August 2006 in Rome.
