Eric Tappy, born May 19, 1931, in Lausanne, Switzerland, was a Swiss operatic tenor. He began his musical education with violin and choir singing lessons from his cousin André Charlet and studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Genève. His breakthrough came in 1956 when he started performing as a concert singer, winning the "1er prix de virtuosité" at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève in 1958. His operatic debut was as Graf von Lerma in Verdi's Don Carlos at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in 1962. He performed notable roles such as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Nerone in L’incoronazione di Poppea. He also appeared internationally at venues like the Royal Opera House and the Salzburg Festival. His recordings included L'Orfeo (1968), Pelléas et Mélisande (1981), and L'incoronazione di Poppea (1982). He passed away on June 11, 2024, at the age of 93 in Belmont-sur-Lausanne.
