Carlos Alves, also known as Carlos Zíngaro, born in 1948 in Lisbon, Portugal, is a violinist, composer, and experimental musician. He studied classical music at the Lisbon Music Conservatory from 1953 to 1965 and later pursued studies in pipe organ, musicology, and electroacoustic music. In 1967, Zíngaro formed the musical group PLEXUS. His career includes over 50 published records, both solo and collaborative efforts. Notable albums include The Sea Between (1988) with Richard Teitelbaum, Ecritures (1990) with Joëlle Léandre, and Solo (1992). He was a founding member and director of the Lisbon art gallery Cómicos from 1984 to 1990 and is the founder and served as its president of the experimental arts/music association GRANULAR since 2002.
