Telectu, a Portuguese experimental music duo, was formed in 1982 by Vítor Rua and Jorge Lima Barreto. Rua, formerly of GNR, and Barreto, a jazz musician and musical essayist, combined elements from free jazz, rock, electronica, minimalism, and concrete music to create their unique sound. Their debut album, Ctu Telectu, was released in 1982. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Telectu released a series of influential albums, including Belzebu (1983), Evil Metal (1992) with Elliott Sharp, and Jazz Off Multimedia (1995). The duo collaborated with notable musicians such as Carlos Zíngaro, Jac Berrocal, Sunny Murray, and Chris Cutler. Telectu also composed music for theater, video art, and multimedia performances. Following Barreto's death in 2011, the project ceased recording new material but continued to perform live sporadically with Vítor Rua and Ilda Teresa Castro.
