Karls Enkel was a Liedertheatergruppe. The group began as a trio in 1974 consisting of Elke Schwarz, Ralf Kober, and Stefan Körbel. The group expanded by 1976 to include Hans-Eckardt Wenzel, Rolf Fischer, Thomas Bruhn, and Werner Karma. Their debut performance took place on February 2, 1977, in Leipzig. In 1979, they received the Kunstpreis der FDJ, the Erich-Weinert-Medaille. Notable programs included Kommt, wir rücken näher zusammen (1977) and Zieharmonie (1979). The group faced challenges with cultural institutions over critical texts, leading to temporary bans and member departures. In 1982, they performed the program Hammer=Rehwü. The folk band Wacholder, who performed the program with them, was briefly banned regionally in April 1983 and had their professional IDs revoked in connection to the program. Karls Enkel disbanded in 1985 after their final program Promenade. Notable songs included "Sektlied" (1977), "Wenn der Kaiser Geburtstag hat" (1978), and "Oma Amler" (1978).
