The Manhattan Brothers were a South African vocal group formed in the 1940s by Joe Mogotsi, Ronnie Sehume, Rufus Khoza, and Nathan Mdledle, who met while singing at Pimville Government School in Soweto. Their breakthrough came with the 1956 single "Lovely Lies", which entered the American Billboard Hot 100 and established them as the first South African band to sell millions of records. They released albums, including the compilation The Very Best Of The Manhattan Brothers. Their Greatest Hits (1948–1959), and collaborated with artists such as Miriam Makeba and Joe Zawinul. The group disbanded in 1961 after touring London, and Joe Mogotsi revived the ensemble in 1990, adding new recordings that celebrated their legacy.
