Robert Edward Jansen, known professionally as Robbie Jansen, was a South African saxophonist and singer. Jansen began a career in the pop band The Rockets before shifting to brass instruments after traveling to London. Jansen performed in the brass section of the jazz-rock group The Pacific Express and achieved national recognition as a member of the Dollar Brand group, recording for the Mannenberg (1974) sessions. Jansen is credited with helping define the style known as Cape Jazz. Jansen performed flute and saxophone on the Juluka debut album Universal Men (1979) and later led the band Sons of Table Mountain. Solo albums include Vastrap Island (1996), The Cape Doctor (2000), and Nomad Jez (2005), which was a finalist for a South African Music Award. Jansen died in 2010.
