Intastella, an alternative rock band from Manchester, United Kingdom, formed in 1990. The group evolved from the earlier band Laugh, which was founded in 1980 by graphic designer Tim Gudgeon and medical student Simon Frampton. After Frampton's departure in 1984, the lineup changed to include Martin Wright (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Ian Bendelow (guitar), Martin Mittler (bass guitar), and Spencer Birtwistle (drums). Laugh released their debut flexi-disc "Take Your Time Yeah!" in December 1985, followed by several singles and an album, Sensation No. 1, in 1988.
In 1990, after Bendelow's departure, Intastella was formed with singer Stella Grundy and dancer Lil' Anthony, shifting to a more dance-oriented sound. They signed to MCA Records and released their first single "Dream Some Paradise" that year. Their debut album, Intastella And The Family Of People, followed in 1991. Despite initial success, the band's momentum was disrupted by Grundy's motorcycle accident. In 1993, they returned with the EP Drifter on the Planet-3 label, collaborating with Shaun Ryder. Their biggest hit came in 1995 with "The Night", which reached number 60 in the UK. The band released their second album, What You Gonna Do, that same year and continued to release singles through 1997. One of these, "Grandmaster", was featured on the soundtrack of the 1997 film Love in Paris. Their final album, Nuphonia, was released in 1997. Lil' Anthony passed away on November 30, 2019, and guitarist Martin Wright died in November 2021.
