Norma Burrowes, born April 24, 1944 in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland, was an Irish coloratura soprano. She studied at The Queen's University of Belfast and the Royal Academy of Music. Burrowes made her professional debut with the Glyndebourne Touring Opera Company as Zerlina in 1970, followed by roles at the Royal Opera House and the Glyndebourne Festival. She joined the English National Opera in 1971 and performed internationally at festivals including Salzburg, Paris Opéra, and Aix-en-Provence. Burrowes made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1979 as Blondchen. Her repertoire included roles such as Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Norina in Don Pasquale, and Pamina in The Magic Flute. She retired from the stage in 1982 and later began teaching at York University. Notable recordings include Purcell - The Fairy Queen (1970) with Benjamin Britten and Holst - The Wandering Scholar (1974).
