Karl Gustaf Ingvar Wixell, born May 7, 1931, in Luleå, Sweden, was a Swedish baritone known for an international opera career from 1955 to 2003. After studying at the Stockholm Academy of Music, Wixell debuted in Gävle in 1952, and later debuted as Papageno in Mozart's The Magic Flute at the Royal Swedish Opera in 1955. Wixell performed with notable companies including the Royal Opera House and the Metropolitan Opera. Wixell was particularly recognized for roles from the Italian repertory, such as Rigoletto and Germont in La traviata. Wixell represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 1965 with "Annorstädes Vals" (1965). In 1991, Wixell received the Illis quorum from the Swedish government. Other releases include the recording Svenska ballader (1997). Wixell passed away on October 8, 2011.
