Trailer Bride was a Chapel Hill, North Carolina-based alternative country rock band formed in 1993. The group consisted of Melissa Swingle (vocalist, guitarist), Robert Mitchener (bass guitar), Brad Goolsby (drummer), Bryon Settle (guitarist), and Scott Goolsby (guitarist). In the summer of 1997, after the release of their debut album Trailer Bride, Daryl White replaced Mitchener as bassist. The band was signed to Bloodshot Records and was known for a southern gothic sound with lyrics reminiscent of Flannery O'Connor's works. Their songs often contained dark themes, such as in "Jesco", a homage to Jesco White from their album High Seas, which featured artwork by Swingle’s daughter Isabel. The band released four additional albums: Smelling Salts (1998), Whine de Lune (1999), High Seas (2001), and Hope Is a Thing with Feathers (2003).
