The Straps, a streetpunk band from Battersea, South London, formed in 1977. Their first gig was at the Park Tavern in Streatham on September 28, 1978. Vocalist John Grant replaced Howard Jackson after he failed to attend a rehearsal. The band's debut single "Just Can't Take Anymore" was released in 1980, followed by their second single "Brixton" in 1982 and self-titled album The Straps the same year. They enjoyed a cult following around London and performed alongside notable acts such as The Damned and Sham 69 before splitting in 1983. The Straps reformed for various gigs and festivals, including performances at Rebellion Festival from 2005 to 2007. Their second album In Love With the New World Order was released in 2005, followed by Brave New Anger in 2013.
