Mtendere Mandowa, known professionally as Teebs, was born in 1987 in The Bronx, New York. Raised by parents from Malawi and Barbados, he later moved to Los Angeles, California, where he established himself as a record producer and visual artist. His first album, Ardour, released in 2010 on Brainfeeder, marked his breakthrough moment. In 2013, Teebs collaborated with Prefuse 73 under the duo name Sons of the Morning, releasing their debut EP Speak Soon Volume One. His second studio album, E S T a R a, was released in 2014 on Brainfeeder. In 2019, Teebs released his third studio album, Anicca, featuring artists such as Panda Bear and Pink Siifu. Notable singles include "Why Like This?" (2010) and "Did It Again" (2022), the latter featuring Panda Bear.
