Tombs, an American sludge and post-metal band from New York City, was formed in Brooklyn in 2007 by Mike Hill on vocals and guitar, Dominic Seita on bass, and Justin Ennis on drums. They released their self-titled EP, Tombs (2007), through Black Box Recordings. They signed to Relapse Records and released Winter Hours (2009), featuring Carson Daniel James on bass and Andrew Hernandez on drums. Their subsequent album, Path of Totality (2011), produced by John Congleton, was named Album of the Year by Decibel magazine. They toured extensively across North America and Europe, sharing stages with acts like Isis and Pelican. In 2014, they released Savage Gold (2014) through Relapse Records. Produced by Erik Rutan, the album showcased a heavier sound influenced by black and death metal. They followed with the album The Grand Annihilation (2017) via Metal Blade Records.
