Ivan Buffa, born on April 2, 1979, in Košice, Slovakia, is a Slovak composer, pianist, and conductor. He began a musical education at the Konservatorium in Košice, studying piano and composition from 1993 to 1999. Buffa continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musische Künste Bratislava (VŠMU) and the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. He formed a piano duo with his wife Diana Buffa in 2002, joined the Wiener ensemble LUX in 2005, and founded the Quasars Ensemble in 2008. As a pianist and conductor, Buffa premiered numerous works by composers such as Toshio Hosokawa, Michael Jarrell, Dai Fujikura, and Kaija Saariaho. He recorded albums such as New Slovak Music for Piano (2007) and Ivan Buffa: Identity (2023).
