Lucas Niggli is a Swiss drummer and composer born in 1968 in Cameroon. He spent his first six years in Cameroon before moving to Switzerland, where he began drum lessons in 1979. Niggli studied at the Jazz School of St. Gallen and pursued private studies with Pierre Favre. From 1987 to 1995, he performed with the experimental group Kieloor Entartet. Between 1995 and 1998, he managed the Unit Records label and presided over the Swiss Music Syndicate. In 1995, Niggli founded the ensemble Steamboat Switzerland, performing at festivals such as Donaueschinger Musiktage and Maerz Musik Berlin. He formed the trio Zoom with Nils Wogram and Philipp Schaufelberger and, beginning in 2002, performed in a trio with Barry Guy and Jacques Demierre. Niggli established the drum quartet Beat Bag Bohemia in 2006. His discography includes the albums Arcanum (2014), Alchemia Garden (2018), and Play! (2023).
