Angelika Niescier is a German jazz saxophonist and composer who was born in 1970 in Stettin, Poland. She emigrated to Germany in 1981 and studied at the Folkwang University of the Arts between 1994 and 1998. Niescier achieved professional prominence after founding her quartet, Angelika Niescier-sublim, in 2000, with whom she released the eponymous debut studio album sublim (2002). She has performed at major international festivals and toured Central Asia and South Korea in 2007 on behalf of the Goethe-Institut. In 2010, she was named the Newcomer of the Year at the ECHO Jazz awards for the recording sublim III. Her discography includes the studio albums Quite Simply (2011), NYC FIVE (2016), and The Berlin Concert (2018), as well as the recording Beyond Dragons (2023). Niescier received the Albert-Mangelsdorff-Preis in 2017 and was recognized with the German Jazz Prize in 2024 for her work on woodwind instruments. Her later releases include the recording Chicago Tapes (2026).
