Cymin Samawatie, born in Brunswick, is a German jazz singer living and working in Berlin. She pursued classical studies at the University of Music and Theatre in Hanover, focusing on percussion, piano, and voice, followed by jazz studies at the University of the Arts in Berlin. In 2002, she founded the quartet Cyminology. Her collaboration with Bobby McFerrin in 2003 marked the start of an illustrious career. Notable projects include a 2007 commission for the Morgenland Festival, a 2008 collaboration with ECM producer Manfred Eicher, and founding the Trickster Orchestra in 2013. She has worked with the Berlin Philharmonic musicians and received numerous awards, including the 2018 RUTH Grand Prize and the 2022 German Jazz Prize for Trickster Orchestra.
