Exkixu, a Basque music band from Gernika, was formed in 1990 by Jon Mikel Arronategi, Josu Artetxe, Alex Sardui, and Aitor Albizuk. Initially known as Xe Osti, the group recorded their first demo in March 1991 at Lorentzo Records. They renamed themselves Exkixu after a book by Txillardegi and began performing live. In 1993, they released their self-titled debut album Exkixu under the label Gor, featuring traditional Basque instruments like the alboka and trikitia. Notable tracks include "Sua, sua" and "Urruntasunaren ahotsa". The band's second album, Gaua heldu orduko, was released in 1995, showcasing a more refined sound and themes of mythology and social struggles. Exkixu performed extensively throughout the Basque region, gaining significant local popularity. Their final public production was an adaptation of Benito Lertxundi's "Loretxoa" for a compilation in December 1996. The band disbanded in October 1997 following a police operation by the Ertzaintza.
