Gerhard Schnitter, born on October 30, 1939, in Obercunnersdorf, Germany, is a German musician, producer, and choir director. He began his musical training at an early age with piano and organ lessons. In 1957, he left East Germany to study church music at the Herford University of Church Music. In the 1960s, Schnitter led musical actions across Germany and embarked on international concert tours. He began collaborating with the Aidlinger Youth Choir in 1970 and directed the music department of Evangelical Brodcasting Corporator in Wetzlar from 1980 to 1995. Schnitter's notable compositions include "Groß ist dein Name" (1983) and "Du gibst das Leben, Das sich lohnt" (1983) featured in various hymns. His work was recognized internationally with a tribute album by American arranger Tom Keene.
