The Münchener Bach-Chor, a German concert and oratorio choir based in Munich, was founded in 1954 by Karl Richter. The ensemble began performing works by Johann Sebastian Bach and gained international recognition through collaborations with the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft, resulting in notable recordings such as Bach's Matthäuspassion, Johannespassion, and the h-Moll-Messe. Under Richter’s leadership, the choir embarked on extensive tours across Europe, the USA, Japan, Israel, and the Soviet Union. Following Richter's death in 1981, Ekkehard Tietze took interim leadership before Hanns-Martin Schneidt assumed artistic direction from 1984 to 2001. From 2005 to 2023, Hansjörg Albrecht led the choir, introducing new concert formats like Bach Modern. Since 2023, Johanna Soller has been the artistic director.
