Herman Hendrik Andy Tielman, known professionally as Andy Tielman, was born on May 30, 1936, in Makassar, Dutch East Indies. He started performing jazz standards with his siblings at a young age. In the late 1950s, after moving to the Netherlands, he and his brothers formed the Tielman Brothers band, which became one of the first Dutch rock bands with international appeal. Their breakthrough came in 1958 with the release of their Dutch rock single "Rock Little Baby of Mine". In the late 1970s, Tielman took a break from performing due to intense fan hysteria and lived as a hermit in the jungles of Kalimantan. He later moved to Australia and resumed touring and recording in the 1980s. Tielman was named to the Order of Orange Nassau in 2005 and passed away on November 10, 2011.
