Sug, stylized as SuG, was a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in 2006. The band became known for its unique blend of alternative rock, pop punk, electronic rock, and nu-metal. The lineup included vocalist Takeru, guitarists Masato and Yuji, bassist Chiyu, and drummer Shinpei. Sug initially signed to Indie PSC, a subdivision of PS Company. Their debut came with their first single "Scheat" in August 2007, followed by their first EP, I Scream Party (2007). The band gained international attention by performing at the J-Rock Invasion in Germany that year. In 2009, Sug signed with major label Pony Canyon and released the single "Gr8 Story," which was featured as the ending song for the anime Katekyō Hitman Reborn! The single charted at number 13 on the Oricon chart. Following this, Sug released their second studio album, Tokyo Muzical Hotel (2010), which peaked at number 26 on the Oricon charts and included the hit single "Koakuma Sparkling." Their third studio album, Thrill Ride Pirates, was released in 2011 and reached number 15 on the charts. This album spawned popular singles like "mad$hip" and "Crazy Bunny Coaster." The success of these albums led to extensive and successful touring, widely expanding their reach. The band would go on to release albums such as Lollipop Kingdom (2012), Black (2015), and Virgin (2016), spawning successful singles such as "Missing," which climbed to number 13 on the Oricon charts upon its release in 2014. In July 2017, Sug announced an indefinite hiatus, and their final performance took place in September 2017 at Nippon Budokan. The band officially disbanded in December 2017.
