Helen Francesca Traubel, born on June 16, 1899, in St. Louis, Missouri, was an American opera and concert singer known for her dramatic soprano and Wagnerian roles. She began her career as a concert singer after studying with Louise Vetta-Karst and Giuseppe Boghetti. Her breakthrough came in 1923 when she debuted with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. In 1937, she made her operatic debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Mary Rutledge in The Man Without a Country. She is best known for her roles as Brünnhilde and Isolde. Traubel's career expanded into nightclub and cabaret performances in the 1950s, including appearances on Broadway in Pipe Dream and films such as Deep in My Heart. She died on July 28, 1972, in Santa Monica, California. For her contributions to the recording industry, Traubel has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
