Founded on November 20, 1831, the Lunds Studentsångförening, also known as Lunds Studentsångare or Lund University Male Voice Choir, is the choral ensemble of the University of Lund, Sweden. Bringing together students in particular, but not only, the male choir's first director was Sven Lovén, followed between 1835 and 1846 by the composer Otto Lindblad (1809-1864), whose specifically written works have been frequently performed and recorded ever since. More than thirty choral conductors have succeeded one another up to the 21st century, including renowned Swedish composers such as Alfred Berg in the 1890s, Folke Bohlin from 1972 to 1985, Mats Paulson from 2000 to 2007 and Michael Bojesen in 2011-2012. In December 2019, conductor Christian Schultze took over the reins of the ensemble, which has recorded successively for the Sonora, Philips, Bis Records, Caprice and Naxos labels. The choir's repertoire includes numerous Scandinavian composers from different eras, such as Wilhelm Peterson-Berger, Hugo Alfvén, Jacob Axel Josephson, Prince Gustave Bernadotte, Josef Hedar, Eduard Tubin, Nils-Eric Fougstedt, Edvarg Grieg, Carl Nielsen and Jean Sibelius, as well as traditional pieces and works by other nationalities, including Debussy, Wagner, Bruckner and Richard Strauss.
