Solace of Requiem, an extreme metal band from Virginia Beach, Virginia, formed in 2001 with roots tracing back to a teenage group called Sarcophagus. The initial lineup included Jeff Sumrell, Chris Young, and Luke Downing. In 2004, they released their self-titled debut album Solace of Requiem, which featured the cover song "I Need You" by Grave. This album also attained international distribution and marked the beginning of tours beyond Virginia. Following the release of Utopia Reborn in 2006, Solace of Requiem parted ways with Ruptured Silence Records and underwent several lineup changes. In 2010, they released The Great Awakening, transitioning to a technical death metal sound with black metal influences. The band continued touring extensively from 2008 to 2012, adding George Arguello as a second guitarist in 2008. Their subsequent album, Casting Ruin, was released in 2014 and was noted for its technical blackened death metal style.
