Georges Samuel Tzipine, born on 22 June 1907 in France, was a violinist, conductor, and composer of Russian-Jewish origin. He studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Paris, winning a first prize in 1926, and began conducting in 1931 with support from Reynaldo Hahn. He composed background music for Gaumont Newsreel and conducted for various ballet companies. Notable film scores include Le Rat des villes et le Rat des champs (1926), Coq en pâte (1951), and Les Amoureux de Marianne (1954). He conducted premiere recordings of works by Arthur Honegger, Florent Schmitt, Jean Rivier, Albert Roussel, Georges Auric, Darius Milhaud, and Francis Poulenc. From 1960 to 1965, he served as Chief Conductor of the Victorian Symphony Orchestra in Melbourne, Australia. He conducted all principal French orchestras and several international ensembles. He was appointed a chevalier of the Légion d'honneur and passed away on 8 December 1987.
