Anu Katariina Komsi is a Finnish operatic and concert soprano who was born in 1967 in Kokkola. She graduated from the Sibelius Academy in 1993 and gave her debut concert that same year. Between 1994 and 1998, she was a member of the Bremen Opera. Komsi has performed as a soloist with major international ensembles, including the New York Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra London.Known for her versatility in both classical music and jazz, she has interpreted works by contemporary composers such as Kaija Saariaho and Esa-Pekka Salonen. Her repertoire consists of over 40 roles, including the lead in Péter Eötvös’s opera Lady Sarashina. Komsi’s recordings include the albums Sydän: Anu Komsi sings Eino Leino (2007), for which she received a Gramophone Award in 2013, and Coloratura (2012). She is a founding member and artistic director of the West Coast Kokkola Opera.
