Ton Engels, born in 1952 in Helden-Panningen, Netherlands, is a Dutch singer-songwriter and guitarist. He began playing guitar as a child and released the album A Picking Fool in his adulthood in 1979. The album was made with his own band, featuring compositions by Scott Joplin, Frank Zappa, and Django Reinhardt. In 1982, Engels formed the group Blowbeat with Cor Mutsers and René Creemers. The band gained popularity in Germany and produced several albums, including Hands Up! (1985), Blowbeat (1989), and Chainsaw Melodies (1992). In 1995, he released Plat, an album sung entirely in the Limburgian dialect. He also taught songwriting at the Fontys Rock Academie in Tilburg from 2000 to 2004. Engels has collaborated with various artists, including Frédérique Spigt and Egbert Derix, and founded Volcano Records in 2004. Notable albums include Wermer as Vandaag (2000), In Het Zuiden Opklaringen (2005) with Egbert Derix, and Wies Merge (2006).
