Paul Zukofsky was an American violinist and conductor who was born in 1943. He studied under Ivan Alexander Galamian at the Juilliard School and made his first orchestral appearance with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra in 1952. Zukofsky gave his formal debut recital at Carnegie Hall in 1956 and achieved professional prominence through his collaborations with composers such as Milton Babbitt, John Cage, and Philip Glass. He gave the world premieres of concertos by Roger Sessions, Charles Wuorinen, and Morton Feldman. In 1975, Zukofsky founded Musical Observations, and he served as the conductor of the Colonial Symphony Orchestra between 1978 and 1987. His discography includes the studio recordings The Twenty-Four Caprices for Solo Violin (1971), Six Sonatas and Partitas for Violin (1974), and Classic Rags and Other Novelties (1975). He died in 2017.
