Brigada Víctor Jara is a Portuguese folk and world music group founded in Coimbra in 1975. The band was named after Chilean singer-songwriter Víctor Jara, who was murdered following the Pinochet coup. Initially performing revolutionary songs for MFA cultural campaigns, the group later shifted toward urban music inspired by regional traditions with their debut album Eito fora (1977). They toured extensively in the Soviet Union and East Germany and released notable albums such as Quem sai aos seus (1981), Marcha dos Foliões (1982), and Contraluz (1984). The album Monte Formoso was originally released as an LP in 1989 and reissued on CD in 1996.
