Berit Maria Jonsson, known professionally as Berit Lindholm, born on October 18, 1934, in Stockholm, Sweden, was a Swedish dramatic soprano. She studied voice at the Royal College of Music from 1961 to 1963 and made her debut at the Royal Swedish Opera in 1963 as Countess Almaviva in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. Lindholm took on leading roles such as Leonore in Beethoven's Fidelio, and Venus in Wagner's Tannhäuser in 1964. She gained international recognition performing at venues including the Royal Opera House in London, the Vienna State Opera, and the Bayreuth Festival. She was particularly noted for her performances of Wagner's Brünnhilde and Isolde, as well as Chrysothemis by Richard Strauss. In 1971, she appeared as Isolde at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow during a pioneering tour with the Vienna State Opera. Her notable recordings include the operas Die Walküre (1966) and Les Troyens (1969). Lindholm passed away on August 12, 2023, in Sköndal, South Stockholm, Sweden.
