Jorge Degas (born 1953) is a Danish jazz and world music bassist and composer of Brazilian descent from Rio de Janeiro. Raised as a street child in the favelas, Degas became a self-taught musician and began a professional career in 1970. During his early career in Brazil, Degas performed with musicians including Robertinho Silva, Paulo Moura, Martinho da Vila, and Alceu Valença. In 1982, Degas performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Degas toured Europe with Al Di Meola in 1986 and with Bob Moses in 1991. After relocating to Denmark in 1987, Degas performed at numerous European festivals. Degas released thirteen albums as a leader and served as a studio musician for various productions. Degas composed film scores for Paraiba Mulher Macho, Bom Burgues, and Dona Beija.
