Buell Kazee, born on August 29, 1900 in Burton Fork, Kentucky, was a country and folk singer. He began playing the banjo at age five, eventually performing publicly. After studying at Georgetown College, Buell Kazee signed with Brunswick Records in 1927, releasing hits like "Roll On John" (1927) and "The Sporting Bachelors" (1927). His version of "On Top of Old Smoky", retitled "My Little Mohee", sold over 15 thousand copies. By the early 1930s, Buell Kazee's career waned, leading him to retire from music and work as a pastor in Morehead, Kentucky. The folk revival of the 1960s brought Buell Kazee back to the stage, performing at events like the Newport Folk Festival alongside artists such as Dock Boggs and Clarence Ashley. He released the album Sings and Plays in 1958. Buell Kazee died on August 31, 1976.
