Victor de Sabata, born on April 10, 1892, in Trieste, Italy, was an Italian conductor and composer. De Sabata began his musical career as a pianist before transitioning to conducting. He served as the director of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo from 1918 to 1929, followed by a tenure at La Scala in Milan from 1929 to 1953. During this period, he gained recognition for his interpretations of operas by Verdi and Puccini, as well as works by Wagner and other composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. Notable recordings include Verdi: Macbeth (1952) with Maria Callas and Puccini: Tosca (1953) featuring Maria Callas. De Sabata's compositions, though less known than his conducting work, include the opera Il macigno (1917) and the symphonic poem Juventus (1919). He passed away on December 11, 1967, in Santa Margherita Ligure.
