Toni Blankenheim was a German opera singer born on December 12, 1921, in Cologne. He trained under Paul Lohmann and Res Fischer before making his debut as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro at the Frankfurter Opernhaus in 1947. From 1947 to 1950, he was part of the ensemble at the Oper Frankfurt, then moved to the Hamburgische Staatsoper. In 1961, he received the title Hamburger Kammersänger. Blankenheim performed roles by Richard Wagner and modern composers like Alban Berg and Igor Stravinsky. He also participated in premieres such as Der Konsul in 1951 and The Rake’s Progress. Notable roles included Dr. Schön in Lulu, Jupiter in Orpheus in der Unterwelt, and the title role in Wozzeck. Blankenheim continued performing until his retirement, with notable roles including Schigolch in Lulu and the Marquis d’Obigny in La Traviata. He passed away on December 11, 2012.
