Kelly Harrell, born on September 13, 1889, was an American country music singer. He began working in textile factories at a young age and developed a passion for singing. His musical career started in 1925 with recordings for Victor Records, including "New River Train" (1925) and "Rovin’ Gambler" (1925). Throughout the late 1920s, Harrell collaborated with various artists and formed a partnership with the Virginia String Band, resulting in several recordings until the Great Depression halted his career. His most notable success was "Away Out on the Mountain", recorded in 1927 and later covered by Jimmie Rodgers. Harrell passed away on July 9, 1942, at the age of 52 while working due to a heart attack.
